Nanna Riis Andersen

Nanna Riis explores painting, drawing, and sculpture that provide context and refer to each other in material, shapes, and signs. In both painting and sculpture, Nanna Riis Andersen works in a mainly abstract expression with references to something recognizable, exploring the organic structures of the body and plants in growth. The viewer is drawn to her color-saturated, detailed universe, where many layers can overlap and create complex spaces. Her use of transparency in the layers of color make her works appear simultaneously intense and light as they unfold and reach towards the outside world.

Nanna Riis received her education from the Jutland Art Academy in 2012 and has exhibited solo and in groups, nationally and internationally, including the JCE biennial in 2015 and 2017 in Denmark, Italy, and France.
