The exhibition is at House of Finn Juhl in Gothersgade 9, Copenhagen. Opening hours: Monday – Wednesday 10 to 4, Thursday 10 to 5 and Friday 10 to 3. Saturday and Sunday closed.

The British textile artist Ptolemy Mann has for some years now studied the works of Danish architect Finn Juhl and Danish artist Wilhelm Lundstrom and has created a series of woven and painted artworks inspired by the colours of the two artists. We are very happy that we are now able to show the artworks in the beautiful House of Finn Juhl showroom. As Ptolemy Mann says: “The artworks were made in response to the idea that the Danish and Scandinavian aesthetic abroad has become synonymous with a desaturated colour palette and I was surprised to discover that the work of Lundstrom and Juhl had a vibrant, Modernist colour palette that was prominent in both their work.”

Ptolemy Mann textile works are hand dyed and hand woven. The linear restriction of the slow weaving process echo´s the modernist furniture design by Finn Juhl. Also, the vibrant colour palette of fabrics that The House of Finn Juhl currently use for their bespoke furniture has found their way into the weavings by Ptolemy Mann. For this show Ptolemy Mann has created a brand-new large-scale Triptych titled “After Finn (Gesamtkunstwerk 1-3)” which refer directly to the ceiling of the Trusteeship Council Chamber within the United Nations Headquarters in New York which Finn Juhl designed in 1952.

Ptolemy Mann (1972) is an artist and textile designer educated at Royal College of Art and Central St. Martins College of Art & Design in London. She is based in the UK and has exhibited and lectured worldwide. She has made several site-specific pieces and are e.g. represented at Tate Modern in London.
